Dublin Transportation Office

The Dublin Transportation Office (DTO) was a government agency, formed in 1996, which provides transport and land use advice to organisations operating in the Greater Dublin Area. It had relatively limited powers and is not a full transport authority. However the DTO was largely responsible for the Quality Bus Corridor initiative which has had some success in promoting use of buses in Dublin.

A full-fledged transport authority for Dublin [1] had been promised by the Irish Government, to be known as the Dublin Transport Authority (DTA). This body was to begin its work on January 1, 2009 [2]. However, plans for the DTA were revised in the light of the budget shortfall, and the government replaced it with a National Transport Authority, which came into being on 1 December 2009. The DTO was dissolved on that date.
